13 people want to use Approval Voting for single-winner elections in the US.

Approval voting lets us vote for as many candidates as we want. Think of it as being able to go down the list and say whether you "approve" or "disapprove" of each candidate. Then the candidate with the highest approval rating is the winner.

With approval voting, we could have more than two serious candidates in a race and we wouldn't have to worry about "wasting our votes" or having similar candidates "split the vote".

I like this idea, but not 100% sure about the unintended consequences. Anybody want to expound on this idea for me to get a better grip on it?
